1975 GMC Palm Beach Restomod

Got most of the components on the right side of the firewall back on today. I'm hopefully going to get the radiator back in sometime in the next few days. In the meantime, I have to finish a bracket the mounts the fluid tank for the hydroboost/power steering that will mount near the hydroboost cooler. Also, as you can see in the first picture, I used the space on the right of the floor air duct to accommodate the vehicle fuse box and the ECM for the engine. Because of that, the underhood light had to go. I didn't want to cut out the square, but I also didn't want to hide the vin plate.

I'm gong to mount some metal flat bar up high using the hood hinge bolts that will hold some LED lights connected to the hood switch. I always hated how dim the light was and the fact it was pointed in the wrong direction.

Nice work,
I like the aluminum standoff plates rather than drilling into the coach.
I just took the old one to a sheet metal shop and they reproduced it. When I decided to split it so I could keep the heater vent piece, I just cut it and used part on one side and part on the other. The standoffs allow rather large bolts without them protruding into the cabin.

Did you know that in the 80s, Cadillac and Buick had an option for a four note train horn.? ACDF. I thought about doing an air horn, but it’s illegal where I live, and I didn’t want to deal with extra switches or relays. In fact, if some inspection stations see the airhorn, they will fail you. I think the decibel limit for passenger vehicles is 110, where most of the airhorns are near 150. This should be a fun upgrade.

I am going to put the Hadley Horns I have had on four prior vehicle back on the coach as soon as I can lengthen the horns to where I want them.
"Tweet" is just is not a GMC sound.
We don't have enough air for a Nathan Air Chime. (I still marvel at that being called a Chime.)

Huh, as far as electric horns go, those sound pretty angry. I like it.

Trying to get everything installed so the wiring can be cleanly routed. I found a new Viair 480C on Craigslist and picked it up cheap. I had to make an adapter plate to mount where the original compressor was mounted. I also found the company that makes seamless air tanks out in California. I was able to order a custom one for only a few bucks more than the off the shelf units. The narrow 4" tank only had ports on the ends, and I wanted one with a few extra for draining, a overpressure relief valve, etc...., so they made me one to spec. Took less than a week.

Wow that looks nice , what shop did you find that made that tank ?

Beautiful tank.
What did that run you?
Stainless?
Around $150 shipped.

It is going to be mounted behind the front crossmember behind the bumper. 2x 3/8 ports on the ends and 3x 1/4 ports. One will be the feed, one will be the drain, and one will be a blowofff valve. One 3/8 from the compressor, and the other will probably be a quick release fitting for tires, rafts, inflatable kayak, etc...

WOW that's cheep - where will you fit it?

Ok Mike - I dare you to put that mounting information on the other site - I bet you'd have 35 guys screening at you ha ha - by the way I just reconnoitered the location & I too am going to mount my Viair 2 1/2 gallon tank in that spot. It solves a lot of space issues - I wonder what effect, if any, having really hot air in the tank would be? Especially Arizona idling somewhere,,,
