1975 GMC Palm Beach Restomod

For anyone following this build, it is going to a good home. @JodyPackerfan has purchased the entire project including all the extra GMC parts I have obtained. Also, I'm going to bow out of the forum management business and I believe @Christo is going to take over that. I'll post some final pictures as it gets loaded for its ride up north.

Ah. Excellent. Glad you found it a good home. Please ignore my personal message, which I wrote before seeing this. Please be safe and well, Mike. And thanks again for all the helpful guidance. Cheers. David.

Very impressive restomod. I am trying to do a much milder version. I have a 78 Eleganza and the bumpers are solid mounted. I would like to have the bumper shocks but the price from Applied is a bit much. Does anyone have a suggestion for sourcing front and rear bumper shocks?

Mike,
why are you enclosing the gen iv in a box in the engine compartment?
Grant

I'm here. I just check in very rarely. The reasoning was because I used the lower dash "max vent" hole in the firewall for the intake and I needed to seal the unit to only draw cabin air. The Vintage Air boxes are designed to use on recirculated air from the cabin. On a muscle car, it is under the dash so it is always getting recirculated air. On the GMC, the box is on the other side in the fresh air, so unless you want to constantly cool hot humid air, it has to be inclosed much like the original air box was.

YEs that does make sense, I am thinking of going the same way but was hopefull in the the small unit I could cap off the " outside air" and run a small duct tot the firewall inside. HMMM interesting.
thanks

It is not just the inlet. It is also the outlets. You have to figure out a way to duct the inlet to the blower. That's easy enough. However, you also have to duct all the outlets (8) to the other side of the dash. There is no provision for a heater duct, so I had Vintage Air send me another defrost duct manifold and I cut off the heater duct, and plastic welded the defrost duct in its place so it was facing up. This allowed me to put two hoses on the unit for heat instead of the direct to floor duct. The most important part though is all of the electronics for the unit are kind of exposed on top. I wouldn't want that under the hood with all of the dirt and water they are exposed to. That was the reason for the box.

Trying to get everything installed so the wiring can be cleanly routed. I found a new Viair 480C on Craigslist and picked it up cheap. I had to make an adapter plate to mount where the original compressor was mounted. I also found the company that makes seamless air tanks out in California. I was able to order a custom one for only a few bucks more than the off the shelf units. The narrow 4" tank only had ports on the ends, and I wanted one with a few extra for draining, a overpressure relief valve, etc...., so they made me one to spec. Took less than a week.

Regarding this compressor tank, do you recall the length and gallon size? Thank you.

I want to say it was 2 gallon, but it may have been smaller. I just measured and left plenty of room on the end for fittings. There were a few lengths (capacity) options in that diameter if I recall.
