Please explain why you would do the front drive wheels last. I want my best wheels and tires on the front drive wheels and as soon as possible.
In my opinion - a flat at the front could be life threatening whereas a flat at one of the rears may be expensive but not as disastrous to handling.

3 months ago. I sold a set of 6. Nice. 16.5 aged out tires. Mounted on bud rims off a GMC. For $85 each. For a total of $510. He needed them for an older Chevy 1 ton. My last set of aged out 16's. My 76 Palm Beach came with 16" steel rims and aged out tires. I replaced the tires and then bought Star XD aluminum wheels one pair every 6-8 weeks and Discount Tire swapped the new tires when the wheels came in. I ordered the wheels through the nearest Discount Tire. I sold the six steel rims to a local GMC owner for the price of one new aluminum wheel.

OK we have decided to go with the 2 at a time. (looking for used aluminum
wheels) but a few questions first. I would like to do the front first. I
don't think that should hurt but what about ride height will that be a
problem?
Next what am I looking for as far as (besides 16") all the dimensions bolt
pattern, hub size, width , and offset?
Then there is the size of the tires. Going from 16.5 to 16 will change the
rest of tire dimensions, also the load rating. I don't mind the next higher
load rating but that is no big deal as we have a transmode without the
kitchen, bath, etc. So the weight is way lower

Mike - you ain't wrong as far as it goes. BUT^. If you put 16s on the front but have a 16.5 spare, replacing a front flat means non - equal tires
side to side, which means the differential has to make the difference. It isn't really meant to do that on a longterm basis, particularly if you've a
limited slip. (If you've seen the Ratrod Toad, you noted two spares. This because the rear tyres are larger than the fronts and it's got a locker
rear end under it. Assymetric tires would probably tear it up fairly quickly.)

The difference between a 16.5” typically a 8.75-16.5E tire and a 16” LT 225/75R16E tire typically does not change the final drive ratio. The tires listed are the stock size that most use. You can go up to a 235 or 245 size tire but that affect your final drive ratio. Our coach has a 3.21 final drive with a 3.50 chain drive ratio which gives me a final drive ratio of 3.67 which I really like for travel our west. You can go up to a 235 or 245 size tire but that affect your final drive ratio. Our coach has a 3.21 final drive with a 3.50 chain drive ratio which gives me a final drive ratio of 3.67 which I really like for travel our west. When I changed from 16-1/2” to 16” wheels my speedometer was only 1 or 2 mph off.
When I went to a 3.55-1 final drive I got an in line speedometer correction device that put my speed right on.

To add to your discussion, the 16" steel GMC rims will not allow you to go to 80mm calipers without some metal trimming on the caliper. 16" Alcoa's
and 16" Americdan Eagles will clear the 80mm.

When I installed 80 mm front calipers many years back I had to grind about 1/16” from a corner of the caliper. Apparently there are small differences in the castings. Most of the people installing 80mm calipers back then had to grind a little off the casting with their Alcoa’s. So the advice is to check to be sure you have clearance.
