GMC Nor'easters caravan to GMCMI Spring 2025

  • Please note, the forum recently had a problem with outbound emails for notifications, registrations, etc. A new email provider has been set up which should resolve all email issues. If you have any further trouble, please DM Christo or reach out via the Contact Us link in the website footer.
Our caravan will carry 4 FRS radios spread throughout. If you guys have any, bring em. Always good to use and come in handy when not wanting or unable to use cell phones.
I have a couple of radios but was thinking it'd be simpler to just use group texting. Re Glympse -- I'll spin up a DM conversation with you so that we can keep this thread somewhat clean.

The thing about glympse is that the permission to track needs to be renewed each day, so it'd be up to individuals or caravan leaders to make sure the renewals happen. I don't know if there are any limitations on group size but the notion of being able to see everyone-ish converging on NC (and getting home safely) sure is enticing. Also, for those traveling independently it might be nice to see if anyone else is nearby regardless of whether they're having difficulties.

Lemme do a bit more research on glympse (this will be my first time using it) and get back to you regarding whether it might be worth doing this for all convention attendees rather than just the Nor'easters.

You're correct, arriving Harrisburg, PA Sunday evening and departing Monday morning.
I think it's a great idea!

Yes, I received the list, thanks! I only reached out to Rich, Alain, and Matthew because they're from the closest locations to our group, and also because I don't want to overwhelm the limited amount of parking at Cracker Barrel or take too much advantage of their goodwill.

Barbara and I typically get going between 8-9AM on travel days. We haven't had our group call yet so I'm not sure how many folks will want to stick closely together versus doing their own thing and meeting up at the end of each day. I don't see any need for everyone to do pit stops at the same time, but yeah I take a break every 3 hours or so. We'll hopefully be able to keep track of everyone via the Glypse app and group text. I'm thinking that as long as we stay loosely together we can help each other out if anyone encounters a problem.
We'll be on your team !

Hi folks, just a quick update. GMCMI has adopted the Glympse location tracking app for the whole convention! They have acquired a Premium Tag called "GMCMI". Anyone who knows this tag name can use to monitor the location of all attendees who choose to share their location. Importantly, location sharing expires for each user after a maximum of 12 hours, so it has to be renewed each day that you're on the road. In other words, you don't have to remember to turn off location tracking -- it happens automatically. It'll be really fun to see everyone converging on North Carolina for the convention and then dispersing after it's over. Also, if anyone runs into problems while on the road, this app might make it easier to provide assistance even if they're not part of an organized caravan.

Hot tip: Use your coach's name as your 'handle' (just like the CB radio days!) and a photo of it as your avatar. I just shared my location for the next 12 hours if you want to see me in the app (Boston area).
Christo - I don't see you on the map app. Can you see me, Minty77 ? I'm in Virginia. Update: I found you. How do you remove a Tag. I inadvertently named a group of the same name, and I can't figure out how to delete it.

Yes, I can see you and me on the same map (I assume someone from GMCMI shared the password with you). If you're using the mobile app, the map should branded (red border, GMCMI logo at top, Spring convention logo at bottom) if you're in the right place. There's a pulldown at the top of the map where you can select GMCMI as the tag to view.

Yes, the p/w was in an email. I do see the banner at the bottom. Sweet!

I haven't found a way to delete an unneeded tag or group from the iOS app. I have reached out to Glympse and will share the response.
