zipdee travel latch?

So, I just finished installing a new zipdee awning, but am a little hesitant to install the travel latch. Guess I'm tired of putting new holes in
the coach and the latch looks a little goofy to me. I've seen other coaches that don't have them. Any opinions on how necessary they are or how well
they work? The closed zipdee is under a fair amount of spring tension and there are already the lock wheels on each end.

thanks,
Karen

Karen,

The latch will prevent large trucks and buses from pulling the awning open going down the road. The large awning on the passenger side has a locking feature on the end of the awning. Never had a latch on the first coach on the drivers side windows and they would sometimes open a little and bang back against the coach. I have one on the stretch on the drivers side that locks the awning. If you feel safe then don’t put it on, but hang on to it because you will be added it to the installation. It looks goofy but it works well and the cost of repairing the awning is much more expensive.

The awning on my Dad's 5th wheel unfurled going down the road when a truck went by in high winds. Tore it off of the body and almost hit car coming in
other direction. Personally, I would not be without latches of some kind. I have latches on both awnings front and back. JWIT

This is for the big awning on the passenger side with a locking wheel on each end.
Maybe the little hook latch is a belt and suspenders thing.

thank you,

Karen,
Never figured out why they started supplying them on the Patio Awning. The
small hooks are use on the driver side as it is lot shorter.
Karen, I can safly advise you to leave it off as it is not durable enough
to hold the larger roll.

Have one of those on my DP zipddee but it doesn't have the 2 wheels. With the 2 wheels I can't imagine there would be any need for it.

All the GMC MH ZipDee Patio awning comes standard with the turn buckle (2)
front and rear.
If used right, no need to add anymore.
I use the optional Cam lever, but be carefull as when it malfunctions, your
going to do some work to put it up.

ZipDee installed our awnings. The installers said they could install the lock on the pass side if I wished but didn't feel it was necessary. It was
not installed.
