I am in the process of installing an 18' zip dee awning acquired at
Myrtle Beach rally.
There is a little difficulty in locating the forward brackets. Any
suggestions - the directions from zip dee for GMC say to locate 17' 11
1/4" forward of rear plumb line. This does not position the main arms
far enough apart to attach the awning - app 2" too short. Any ideas of
help would be greatly appreciated.

Jim,
Just measured mine. The arms are 18' 3/4" center to center. The forward
lower bracket has the right hand screw exactly on the panel joint just
behind the passenger seat; this makes the rear bracket just clear the
propane hatch. Located in this position both brackets will fasten into
the metal studs rather than into just the fiberglass. The original owner
had the awning brackets simply installed into the fiberglass (original
position was 2" aft) and they had worked loose over the miles. Good luck
with yours!! If you're going to Albuquerque you will get some heavy duty
use out of your new awning.

Jim,
Sorry, I have ordered several Zip Dee awnings over the years but have
always had my paint tech. do the install!

Do you have the # for Zip Dee, if not give me a call.

If you still get no where, call & I'll let you spend some time on the phone
with one of my guys.

I will tell you this, I have helped hold stuff up during install & there
were a couple of times that we resorted to squaring the beast off,
understandinf the geometry and locating the hardware where it needed to be!

Let me know if I can help,
