Shucks, just when I thought I'd come up with something new. I'd like
to see someone's coach that has this setup to see how they managed the
belt drive.

It's been done! There are at least three GMCs with York or Tecumseh AC
compressors being used as air compressors. The main advantage is the short
time it takes to build air pressure - seconds rather than minutes. Not much
trouble putting 60 psi in a tire either. I guess if there's something to be
done to a GMC somebody's done it.
