Wurth Bond & Seal: Retail sales

Several people on this forum have removed and resealed their side rails using Wurth Bond & Seal purchased through the now shuttered Co-Op. However, I cannot find a retail business near me that carries this product and 2 sources I called in LA only sell wholesale.

Does anyone have a retail source to purchase Wurth Bond & Seal? I will need enough 10oz tubes to cover both side rails. Thanks!

Does wurthusa.com not allow personal accounts? They sell it by the tube on their site, but do seem to require an account be set up. I don't see them mentioning business-account exclusivity.

Edit: Well, I followed the rabbit hole. You do indeed have to be a commercial business to register as a Wurth customer. That's disappointing.

Wholesale only. When I called them, they provided me with wholesale phone numbers out of LA.
 
You can actually shop as a guest, but not if you're shopping for chemicals. That explains why the add to cart button is disabled for that particular product.

If it was me, and it seemed like this company didn't want my money, I'd probably give my money to Dicor or Sikaflex instead. I hadn't seen much talk about the Wurth product. What material serves as its base? Are there no competitor products that will do the same job?

Yep, eBay one from Bulgaria - pass. I may contact the seller with the black tube but he is in the UK and I am sure there are import tariffs.

Maybe instead look at 3M 5200 Adhesive Sealant. It appears to be polyurethane based.
 
I somehow have an account…. They call me like once a year asking if I need anything more. I bought maybe 4 tubes many years ago.

I am not really impressed with the longevity of it. It went on well and thought it was good buy a few short years it shrunk.

Message me if you are desperate for some and i can figure out how to order again. But I bet there has to be better products..A0E94B2C-5958-4600-AED4-9A28840655F8.webp

Yeah, shrunk is right. Haha, not desperate but I thought it worked well. I am now looking at 3M 08365 Beige Paint & Masking Products. Weird product description but details show it is a polyurethane Seam Sealer.

I used the Wurth product to seal the rails on mine. It seemed to be in the silicone sealant 'family' which was disappointing after spending hours on the rail cleaning off PO applied silicone.

The original seal was black closed cell foam tape. After almost 50 years, all that was left of it was black dust and the adhesive used to stick it down for assembly. That's what I found on mine and it looked all original upon disassembly.

I don't think you need to go crazy trying to find Wurth for those reasons.

If I were to do it again, I would use a strip of butyl tape just under the upper edge, and a drop of dicor under each screw head.

Just my personal opinion, but I'd like to be able to remove it, clean it easily and reassemble it again. A urethane adhesive just seems like a bad idea. Again, just my personal opinion, but butyl doesn't harden and cleans up easily with mineral spirits.
 
Sikaflex cleans up easily with methyl hydrate and once used on the rails, that's it, not gonna get done again in most lifetimes.
 
I didn't remove rails, just reefed out seams and caulked. Main consumption of product was at the end caps where there are very large voids - especially the rear.

I think I only used one or possibly 2 tubes max.
