Our GMCWS rally at Coos Bay, Oregon the week of October 10th, 2016 has
about 120 pre-registered so far. It is a 5 club rally, and that number
might float up or down a bit in the next few days. There seems to always be
a flurry of activity in registrations a few days before the event. Good
numbers for both events. Should be a great event in both cases. Go if you
can. Meet lots of people, eat and drink too much, see vendors, get lots of
ideas, make new friends, put faces and voices to those Internet members.
Use those coaches, that is what they are for.

Thanks for that encouragement, Jim. Bob and I are standing by a few hours
from Mansfield in our SOB. Will get to Int'l 9-28.

That Coos Bay meet has been on our bucket list for at least five years, but
we just haven't been able to get there. I imagine there are quite few
folks out West who feel the same way about Int'l.

Our GMC, "The Roadhouse" is at home, needing some TLC. Would rather be in
it.

All the best for two fun, informative, fulfilling (grin) times of sharing
and fellowship for GMCers.

The Biggest GMCMI Conventions were in fall of 1998 and spring of 1999 with the number right at 400+ coaches. We were at the spring rally at Myrtle Beach, SC. It was our first GMCMI rally and coach as far as the eye could see.

Need to make a correction here, I went back and look at the numbers and the fall 1998 convention in NC was 396 coaches and 274 at the spring 1999 convention. The mind fades sometimes.

Still more than these days. As the coaches and their owners and people who
support and maintain them age, we need to be ever vigilant to recruit
younger participants to our ranks. Very necessary for us to perpetuate the
GMC family. Drive them, that is why they were made in the first place. If
they collect a few stone chips, that's just the way it is. I have been a
hot rodder since 1955. Too many of them to mention here. With two
exceptions, they were all drivers. Many never got beyond the primer paint
stage, but they still got driven and enjoyed. I absolutely hate to see a
big convoy carrier unloading show cars. Cars as art, to me have little
value. Same with GMCs. 400 miles to a rally is a short drive for us in the
western states. Some of ours are 3 days travel one way. But, Rocky
Mountains after mid October is risky business. So, north and south work
well because most of our population is clustered around Interstate 5. Some
of you guys dread earthquakes and volcanic eruptions just as we out here
dread humidity, tornadoes, and insects, as well as oppressive heat. We try
to sneak east in the spring and winter.

Wishing all of you a very nice rally, with lots of fun ... ,
If it was some more nearby, I would be very glad visiting you.

Actually, the largest was at the Tom Johnson Camping Center at Marion NC in the Fall of 1998 with 396 motorhomes. The spring 1999 at Myrtle Beach only had 274.
The second largest was at Myrtle Beach in spring of 1995 where we had 317.

Peer,

You are absolutly right. And in fact the idea of trying to attend one of the rallys is still on my mind.
But then I have to rent SOB rental, GMC rentals are not availlible I think so..... Or do you rent yours ? :)
Still doable, and for this rally and perhaps the one on the west coast, they seem to me the biggest events in the USA GMC Community.
But as said, it is on my bucketlist.

As I told before I am retired, but my wife still works, so planning our vacation is sometimes difficult on how and when she can get it.

BTW. Did you ever had the chance of attending one?
I think it will be a great expirience and wish all attendees a very nice time.

Dan,

John Sharpe and I have attended a fair few GMCMI, GMCWS, and GMC Dixielander rallies without a coach. We do this because of time
constraints / costs.

We fly to the nearest large city, rent a car, and stay in a motel and I would suggest you do the same.

BTW in my opinion the "size" of the convention / rally is not that important; you will be welcomed at any of them. Yes, if there are
more GMC's at an event you will get to see more of the various models and modifications owners have made to them.

Rob M.

might.

At EVERY GMCMI rally I've attended, there have always been a few folks who, for any number of reasons, did not bring a coach and stayed in Motels. I
have done this myself when I had a coach problem at the last minute.

No problem as far as the group goes but I'll admit the experience is not as good as staying at the rally and building more relationships.
