Would this boat and trailer fit in the back of a GMC?

I was talking to Matt, in MI, the other night and he was wonder:
Do you think this boat and trailer would fit in the back of a GMC ? once the GMC was gutting?

How wide and tall is the back opening on the GMC MH - once you remove the rear panel?

BTW - I'm in awe of people who come up with an idea and see it through to completion. People like Dave Peterson who designed and made the Ultra Van, Tucker with the Tucker car, the Vixen RV which I have worked on for a customer and Wayne with his Wayne 100 boat and many others like them. So cool!!!

We own a couple Ultravans and a Wayne 100 for our museum plans.
However, I could never afford a Tucker. However, I was blessed to see my first Tucker, in July 2013, at The Gilmore Museum near Kalamazoo MI. If you have not already visited The Gilmore and all it has; you must do so if you are going through Kalamazoo MI. You must spend a day at The Gilmore.

Corsa Corvair held their 2013 Convention in Kalamazoo and I was able to go to my first Corvair Convention and see the Gilmore during the same trip.

Here is a link to the Gilmore for those who have not heard about it. A must see! Plan a trip with a one day stop for the museum.
I plan to go back to the Gilmore again when I stop by to visit a high school friend of mine who lives in Olivet, MI.

Keep in mind that one of GMCs that I'm looking at purchasing starts and I should be able to get in on the road for a oneway trip back east/home. But it is a parts coach. It would be easy to gut it before I head back east with it.

BTW - I found an email from the PO of the Wayne 100 that had the measurements.

"The length from the tongue of the trailer to the rear of the trailer is 18 feet. The total width is 7 feet."

That sounds like it might be too big to fit inside a GMC...
If the GMC was wide enough and the boat/trailer would fit - I could leave the back panel off and let the stern stick out the back of the GMC.

Then I could haul the other Wayne 100 behind. Otherwise I will have to make a second trip out west to get the other boat. :d

The trailer axel most likely won't fit. Maybe the boat off the trailer and haul the trailer on top of the other boat?

Are you talking about removing the rear fiberglas back end or just the rear hatch. The hatch is a lot narrower...probably at least 2 feet narrower.

I'll go measure my parts coach. It's gutted already.

You could probably get the boat in by turning it up on one side to go through the hatch then letting it back down without the trailer.

I was wondering if I could do that with the trailer too.
Put the Trailer in first and then place the boat on top.
I can remover the windshield and top on the boat - so it is not as tall.

BTW - How hard would it be to remove the fiberglass back and put it back on for the trip east?

Tony, just double stack the boats on one trailer, car hauler type tandem
axle, and tow the whole shebang with the GMC. Lot less drama.

OK, the 'hatch is wider at the top around the window than the bottom below the window. The two hatch measurements are 68 & 72"

If you removed the complete fiberglass back end of the coach (at the back of the window, the measurements are 82" at the floor and 91" at the beltline (bottom of the windows) The beltline is the widest portion..

Btw, removing either the hatch or the cap are non trivial unless you plan on the sawsall approach. I tried to take the hatch off mine and the screws would not move even with heat and an impact wrench.

it can be done obviously but it's not trivial...sometimes at least.

Don't hide the boat in the GMC. Tow it behind so people can see!

Very impressive that it can deep start 3 adult water skiers. I would like to find a late 60's Bell Boy boat to tow behind the GMC.

I'm not hiding it. I have two, that I purchased 2 years ago, to get back home/east along with some Corvair sutff.

I'm even thinking about buying 2 GMCs one for each trip.
One would be for parts once I got it home and the other we would use.

I'm just batting ideas around... Plus I know nothing about GMCs...

. Not likely that it could pull 3 adult water skiers up in a deep water start with single competition skiis. I had to work at getting up behind an 18 ft jet boat with a 455 olds high compression motor I weighed 180 at the time.
