GMCnetters,

I've been in touch with a former GMCnetter from the Atlanta area who may
need our help. He has a medical condition that may keep him from completing
work which he had begun on his coach. He asked me for advice as to whether
to pay someone to finish the job, sell the coach "as is" or part it out. I
would bet that most of you probably feel the same as I do about the
possibility of a repairable coach being parted out.

I suggested to him the possibility of getting a work party together at his
place to put his coach back into driveable condition. This probably
wouldn't include the upgrades he had planned, but would at least make the
coach easier to sell and, most of all, keep it all in one piece. Also, if
he decides to keep the coach, he would be able to take it to the Dixielander
work rally next spring.

This is all just in the "head-scratching" stage, but I'm curious how many of
you could volunteer up to a week of your time to help save a coach? No need
for a lot of details right now, just a show of hands.

Thanks,
Patrick

Thanks to those who've responded. Not making a list yet, but will when
the owner says "go". I'll take a look at the coach and put together a
list of "needs" and priorities. Will also give opportunity for those
who can't travel to contribute(thanks Dave for that idea). Will work
toward 3 or 4 weeks notice for the "party".

This could be a blast!

Thanks!
Patrick

Depending on when it is, I'm game.

Patrick,
Your Work Party idea is superb IF it works out. What a place for a
mechanical idiot like myself to learn from the pros. Would like to join in
if possible. Caution: All I know, I learned on this net.{:>)

Another thought, there have to be others who are struggling to get their
GMC's back on the road for one reason or another sooooooo, why not pick one
in your particular area, one in Ohio comes to mind, and folks from that area
go to assist and get it back road worthy again, quickly.

What a place for an owner, newbie, wannabe, or just anybody to get the
experience that means the most, hands-on type experience.

Make it a vacation of what most on this list likes best, well, maybe second
best, work on a GMC.

Well?????? Ideas?????

Roger, just stirring the pot a little. >

Great idea, Roger! Wish I was free to join in this, I'd be there in a
flash -- this sounds like fun!

I doubt I could be of much help but I am not far from ATL right now. Does
he have a place to park with hook ups? I'm committed here at Lazy River
CG for a couple more weeks. I agree it would be a shame to part it out
but that sounds like a desperate move. If he can afford it why wouldn't
he have Zeb Frady get it ready for the highway? If not affordable, I'm
sure there are enough of us who could support one way or another!

Dave, you're always welcome. I'll check out the parking situation when
I look at the coach. He could easily wind up with a half-dozen or more
GMC's in his yard(more fall-out for the neighbor assoc.).

I'm not sure that he actually would part it out, but I'm concerned about
the simple economics. Add up what it'll cost to put the coach right
added to what it's worth now and subtract the sales value after it's
fixed and it's still negative cashflow. The coach isn't driveable now,
so taking over to Zeb's isn't an option even if he can afford it. That,
plus his medical condition may not allow him to enjoy the coach anyway,
and I'm afraid the coach might get piecemealed out. Not to mention that
he brought up this option himself.

If we get it roadworth, then he'd be able to get it over to Zeb's for
the rest.
