Wireless

Sprint just announced a free 6 months of their less updates / data
connection. They also have specials on their free and clear plan (free
long distance-no roaming charge) This would let you use your normal ISP
from anywhere.

500 hours $50
1000 hours $75

This is the first time they have done this and I hope a sign of the future.
I am going to try it.

Interesting, they say their Data connection does not work on the Mac. Mr.C
is going to check into this.

I you go to their web page , Sprint does not ask you what state when they
talk about the plans. I think it is the same all over.

This new promotion just started Thr. of this week. I called them and asked
if it was for wireless updates and Data cables , and they said yes and
signed me up. I am going to the Sprint store next week and try a data
cable at their store on my phone and my laptop to make sure all is ok..
This is free for 6 months - so far- . I already had my sprint phone and
so did Mr.C and they said we could get this free promotion. If we like it,
they expect us to buy into the plan at the end of months for $10.. They
also said we could use the same hours.
This also seems to be month-to-month, no one year plans. so should be easy
to get out if we want to.

What you are saying was the same info. I got prior to this. Glenn found
the same thing when he got his Sprint phone. Data cables and connection
times were extra charge. Now for 6 months the connection charge is free.
I think this will let me see if this is useful over the (travel) summer
months...

They also say, if you buy a phone now, whey will give your $50 off of
accessories, which I would like to think would reduce the $100 cable to
$50????

I hope to test this Monday or Tuesday

Gene,

Regarding the "Free and Clear Plan". Long distance is free as long as
you're on the Sprint PCS system. AFAIK, roaming(any time you're off the
Sprint system) is not free. For the Atlanta service area, roaming in
Georgia is .39/min and nationwide rate is .69/min plus .25/min long
distance(if applicable for both GA and Nat'l).

Unless Sprint changed their web site since 2:00 EST yesterday afternoon,
this is the case.

Also, the data connection is not available while roaming.

The good news is that Sprint has an extremely extensive system, so, at
least for me, roaming would be very rare.

Yep.

Wrong. The confusion is over the Wireless Web Messaging vs. the
Wireless Web Connection kit.

Sprint has reduced the price for the Wireless Web Connection kit to $99
as of yesterday afternoon. Also check out the new Samsung SCH3500 phone
on their site(www.sprintpcs.com).

Just right

only works on the PCS system which is major cities only (except in FL)

In my case I can hit the cities that I usually travel to like:
Portland
Eugene
Livermore
Sacramento
la
albq.
Las Cruces
salt lake

in between there is almost zip here in the West.

My options are to use Sprint and do my mail off line and dump when I reach
a big city
- --or--
In the smaller towns, use the Kmart Bluelight free isp and look for a phone
I can plug into and then call the local Kmart and get a down load.

Not great options, but since Sprint has offered to let me try it for free
for 6 months (I already have a Sprint phone) I thought I would try it and
see if it was worth it while I am on the road.

I have given up hope of web browsing and I am just looking for ways to get
email once in a while.
