When batteries get old and fail and will no longer charge the impedance can drop and present a big load to the charger. In this state they can get
quite hot. If you have a 50A charge/converter that's up to 600 Watts of heat to disipate. This may trip/reset the converter while you are unaware and
could present a fire hazzard. It's very difficult to have an electtical fire with no batteries and no 120V source during storage.
