Windshields at spring GMCMI rally

We are not doing them at the spring rally. To far to travel. We will do them at the fall tally in Tennessee.

They will still do single coaches for any one traveling through NW Indiana and the Chicago area between now and the fall rally .

Ken, I noticed a previous thread about ceramic tint on the windshield. Is this something your installers could do on a new windshield while it’s
out?

GMCMI will not be conducting a windshield clinic in Patterson in the Spring.
I have talked with Ken Burton and the gentlemen are willing to conduct a
clinic this fall in Tennessee.

This was something that I almost pulled off a couple of years ago as an option at the Mansfield Rally. I had orders for 23 sets of new ceramic tinted
windshields to be installed besides the normal ones of about 2 dozen more.

In the end we had to drop the tint project because of legalities and warranty issues. It turns out our GMCs do NOT have federal restrictions against
tinted windshields. The problem is 45 states and at least 3 provinces do have restrictions.

Ohio, which is where these would have been installed, is one of the states where front tinting is legal. Most of the coaches at the rally are
registered and titled outside of Ohio and would be illegal in their home state. Also any warranty work, if it was ever needed, had to be done by a
dealer in one of states where it is legal.

I can tell you this, It is very, very difficult to tint them inside once they are installed.

Some tinters will do this for you even though it is illegal in their state. Usually those tint shops will not give you warranty or receipt paper
work, I am still thinking about doing mine some day. I will pull or replace the windshield to do it.

I really did not answer your question in my previous posting. This company does not do any tinting. Neither does the company that makes the
windshields. The installers have installed several tinted windshields that others have tinted. It is a little difficult because the windshields
have to go from the manufacturer warehouse, to the tinter, and then moved again to the installer at the coach location.

from what I have been told from some situations. Windshield installers DO NOT like, or will not install filmed glass. This puts them at a
liability with damaging the window film when installing the glass.

Ken has some unbelievable installers doing these "windshield" clinics. What they do for the GMCMI rally in installing these windshields is just
amazing and hard to believe they are willing to do these. it tells you also what a unique and amazing person Ken is.

I will say it again, that the person who did my ceramic film on my windshields will not do another. but he did a great job and I think it really
helps the heat.

Some do not realize that windshields are made from two layers of glass separated by a plastic film (laminated glass). The film keeps the glass from shattering onto occupants but also filters out ultraviolet light. You could drive all day into the western sun and will not get sunburned on your face. It also protects your eyes from the UV. But if you have untinted glass on the side window, which is not laminated glass, your arm can get sunburned in an hour or so.
The reason so many states forbid tinted glass on the windshield is because it cuts down on your vision.

I do not, or have no idea on the properties of our stock gmc windshield. But ceramic film is a game changer. I try to use the term “film”
rather then “tint”. Because there is no “tint”. The film on my windshield is clear. So it gets grey area with laws.

The ceramic does block 99.9% if UV. But that is not the big deal. It is the 66% of total solar energy and up to 95% of infrared heat rejection
that is the game changer.

It might not be 100% clear, but you cannot tell at
All there is any film on there, until I park next
To another gmc. And even then you have to look very close at the difference. It is almost transparent.

When I went looking for extra tints for the front of the GMC, I found the most states have a maximum of 70% VLT (Visible Light Transfer) requirement.
Some all darker above the VLT line inscribed in some windshields.

Most GMCers are trying block heat and not visible light. These ceramics tints canm be found that only add 3 to 10% to the existing VLT from the
factory. After one a meeting we had with one tinter, he brought out 2 types of VLT meters and showed us the factory VLT on several random vehicles in
the parking lot. Most of them were in the 80% range from the factory. We did not do a GMC Coach Glass windshield because we did hot have one at the
site. Ceramic tint that does not add more than 10% or less ought to work. We were going to use the 3% stuff.
