Greetings from Southern California

I took the coach to a tint shop (well... pictures of it) to see about getting new tinting all around.

And... I get a response recommending that I contact the "residential / commercial installer as this would be better suited for that type of film
instead of automotive film."

So... any wisdom here to support that claim or did this guy just not want the job ??

I'm also considering a clear heat rejecting film on the windshields...

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

Steve- This is a common problem. I have been toying with the idea of tint for years. This maybe the year i pull the trigger, but I said that
last year as well.

What you are dealing with is someone that does not want the liability. What I mean by that is our coach's may be tricky for them to guarantee a
perfect job, and do not want to fight to tell an owner why. Reasons are the way our window seals are it does not allow much room for error on
cutting the big sheets perfectly and showing a gap. The trade off is also the issue of dirt migrating up into the trim if they get too close or
touch the old window seal. There are a couple other things that makes our coaches not the ideal job for a window tinter.

With that said, i have had many no-quotes. One for $1800.

Most serious people have quoted about $800-1000.

Discount guys have been a little leas and I just had talked to a guy who will do my windows for $550-600. With $80 to do a brow of clear on windshield
or $180 for the whole windshield.
By discount I mean someone who does it out of home or mobile and do not have big shop or overhead.
The guy above does not have ability to do the motorhome at his home shop due to size. The price is for installing the film on a saturday inside my
work's climate controlled shop. He does some jobs outside, but makes you sign off on a waiver that states you understand there maybe some
imperfections because it is not installed in an ideal environment to control dust.

When I broke out my back window, I took the replacement glass to an auto
tint shop (Shine Factory) and had it double layered before installing. If
you could take the windows out first, you could reseal them and get a
perfect job for very little cash.

Just sayin'

Steve,

I had to remove the glass (slider & stationary) from the frame. Watched him do the first 2 glass and did the rest myself.
Need a dust free area, clean the glass with soap, razor, 0000 (4 zeros) steel wool, then clean again and rinse.
To apply the film (I used metalized 3M 20%) you need a helper, the film MUST NOT stick to itself, if it does your done
with that piece of film. Need a spray bottle of water with 5 or 6 drops of dish soap to spay the the glue side of the film and glass
to allow the film to slide/move on glass. To squeeze the moisture/bubbles out, start with a small (4" squeegee) then use a credit card
wrapped with a towel to soak the squeezed liquid. Squeeze from center out. Each time more bubble will come out till you get non.

Practice on a piece of glass then do a small window first and build confidence for the next one.
The Windshields can only be done when out. There's no way to make sure it has no bubbles and do it with a one piece of film.
You will smile when the windshields are done, it makes that much of a difference.

You want automotive 3M tinting non mirror film. Call if want more info.

What I had to do.

Several years ago we had our couch tinted. Max tint allowed in cockpit and dark limo tint on the rest. If I could have a redo, don't think I'd go that
limo dark again. With these old eyes, even during the daylight, it's a little to dark for my reading and "searching for missing things" comfort. I
think max legal tint would be all I'd go with. JWIT

A lot of the shops around here have software and cutting machines that precut all their tint, maybe if just isn't in his software and maybe he doesn't
have THE old school skills to to cut the tint on the Windows.
