Why latches?

I'm not even sure what I'm looking at! Are those places to hang a hand shower head instead of being latches? What floor plan GMC is this showing?

Probably made from plexiglass or acrylic. Wife wants one in there too, but hadn't figured a way to secure it and what to make it from until now.

Trying to figure out why someone installed, or removed something. Have driven many of us even more crazy then we where before. The Puzzle Mobile has had piles of WHY's. Bob Dunahugh
