came to mind: What causes the
windshield to cloud around the
edges? I have seen sob's that are
not like that, is it because of heat
buildup inside the GMC and curtains
inside instead of over the outside of
the windshield?"
Terry I spent my first half dozen years
in the Glass Business in Auto Glass.
While heat buildup may be a factor,
all laminated glass has a tendancy to
cloud around the edges over time.
Eventually all laminated glass
delaminates and typically this starts
at the edges
Why not on the SOB's?
1) - because of minor differences in the
curve of the inner lite and the outer a curved
windshield is likely to cloud sooner than a
flat one.
Where have you seen a windshield
curved more than those used in the GMC?
2) - Most SOB's have been recycled
long before they reach the age of
delaminating glass (the age of all GMC's)
3) - Although I am speculating here I suspect
that a higher percentage of GMC's may keep
their original windshields longer because of
less use on gravel. The people that want to
spend lots of time in the rough stuff own
something else.
The windshields that I am presently discarding
(1973 GMC) are both original and clouding.
If the coach can go 27 years before it needs
new windshields again I will be a happy camper!!
