Whining noise during operation

I’m a new owner and have a question about a slight whining noise I have when it runs. This is during idle and am unsure if it should be of concern.

I hear a bit of a cyclical sort of hissing but it's hard to tell. Can you open up the engine hatch and see if you can hear it better from there?

I hear a whirring/scraping sound. Check your waterpump (check for side to side play at the fan, visually check while running for any wobbling at pulley or fan). If all ok, check belts and items they drive for anything out of the ordinary.

The whining noise sounds like a power steering pump.

Also sounds like theres an exhaust leak.

Exhaust leak and power steering pump, check your fluid level.

Try moving steering wheel to verify it's the power steering pump making that noise.

It could also be a bearing in the alternator.

When you have the hatch off and engine running, if its not obvious where the noise is coming from, use a long screwdriver and touch whatever part you want to try and identify the noise is from. Put your ear to the handle. Simple stethoscope.

I agree it sounds like pump noise. Check power steering pump level, and transmission fluid level.
