To me testing oil in a good running engine is a useless test.

I mean so what.

What really matters is how the oil handles adverse conditions.

Plugged filters, Antifreeze, dirt, long or forgotten oil changes, thats what matters.

Two cases that make me an Amzoil fan:

1: 2008, 1992 saturn, Amzoil, failed head gasket, 2+quarts of antifreze in the oil. pulling the oil plug resulted in pure green coolant,k then some oil too.

I replaced the head gasket, changed the oil, and it is still running well today, good oil pressure very little oil usage at 200,000 miles.

2. 1996 Dodge caravan, Amzoil transmission fluid. After towing way too much, like a 4 place snowmobile trailer loaded with construction materials, and driving hard the transmission started growling on the way home from work. The filter was plugged, the pump was cavitating and pitted the pump housing.

Dropping the pan it was nothing but sparkles, it looked like dancing with the stars in there. 1/8(?) inch of aluminum and clutch material on the bottom. Flushed the trans, new filter and that trans lasted the remaining life of the car, the pump noise even got better over time.

Oil is like a snow blower, so what if it works on a sunny day, how does it perform when you get dumped on?

Why do an oil test? To look at anti freeze contamination; silica from a failed air filtration,
to name 2 that immediately come to mind. Amsoil saved me 2 engines, '98 Venture with failed
head gasket and tractor engine my daughter run too long very low on oil. I use Amsoil in just
about everything; the ZDDP fortified for the old stuff. Don't look back. Oh, by the way the
flash point is 400* plus.

Nothing against amsoil, but I just have to point out that just because your engine didn't brick after being abused with amsoil in it does not mean
amsoil saved it.
You have zero evidence that dollar general oil would not have done the same.

That's like saying if you survived a car accident with a blue shirt that the blue shirt saved your life. Who's to say you wouldn't have survived in a
red one? No one will ever know.

Similarly there is no evidence that amsoil, or rotella, or any other other good oils do any better in adverse conditions than any other. If you've got
huge metal shavings in your engine, it's luck of the draw whether they find their way into bad places or not. No oil is going to magically fix major
problems, or prevent complications from them. I've had an engine ingest a nut and spit it out the exhaust without so much as a scratch, I've also had
similar issues completely destroy an engine. It's hardly the oil that made the difference, just luck of the draw.

I use rotella, why? I dunno because I use it on all my vehicles and have a bunch sitting around. It comes in big enough jugs for my duramax.
As the blackstone analysis proves (or at least provides much evidence for) oil is oil so long as it's good oil.

Your analysis is misguided and misses the main point.
True, I don't know if other oils would have worked as well in this exact instance, I do know dino oil failed in 1 other similar and less extreme case.
The bearings were shot, the oil pressure near zero and the compression down. This was on my olds 442.
What I do know is this engine still runs.

the _main_ point is the test is weak. A good test would be more destructive( and expensive, so I doubt anyone will do it).

Back in the 60's when I was a poor, newly married, guy, there existed in
Salem a company called Prine Oil Co. They collected used motor oil from
service stations, and re-refined it. As I recall, it came in 20wt., 30wt.,
and 40 wt. Detergent or non detergent. It was cheap, . $.30 a qt. I used it
in my old cars, never had any problems with it. Today? I use Havoline.
Don't know why. No problems with it either. Are the two equal? Who knows.

I don't think it's misguided in the least.
Not to be argumentative but I can give you plenty of examples of cars with full synthetic high end oil with grenaded motors.

Point is, statistically there is no evidence that one is better than the other, use whatever you feel is the best, but you can't reasonably claim that
amsoil saved your motor. Because there's zero evidence of that, (nor can there ever be)

For the record I think amsoil is great stuff and I run some of their products in my motorcycles.
