A quick share of my own 'wheels' episode of some years (and a few thousan
miles) ago.

Some years back I bought NON-Alcoa aluminums, on a recommendation of a
reputable GMC service source.

Not knowing any better I relied on that recommendation. The wheels were the
2 piece type, welded wheels.
After several mysterious 'flats' via slow leaks, I finally had them
dye-checked and found pin holes in the weld.

In the meantime the company, headquartered in Kansas, took the wheels out of
production due to lack of sales... gee I wonder how come :-)

Needless to say I'm running on Alcoas since then and during my trek to
Alcoas found out that the only aluminums to run on are 'one-piece' ones,
like the Alcoas. Not sure about type or quality of other brands, I just
thought I'd drop this note as a caution in case 2-piece ones are surfacing
again.
