Wheel Question?

I realize this topic has been beaten to death, but we are now considering
wheel replacement for our coach.

We have always run good quality tires on the stock, steel, radial rims. Ride
has been okay. I have never been confident in the balancing work I have
gotten over the years, but it was livable.

My question is will Alcoa wheels and new tires make a dramatic difference
that will make me feel good about spending all the dough? Is there something
else I should also do, like a good alignment?

I also note that there are 2 diff model #'s listed on the GMC mart. Which
ones do I get?

I guess in general, I am looking for some feedback on this topic to push me
over the edge, so let me know what, if anything you may be thinking.

Hi Tony

If you've got good, true wheels and high quality tires that are in balance,
the new wheels and tires aren't going to make that much difference in the
ride.

I got a set because I couldn't find a good all steel tire readily available
for the 16.5" wheel and I needed tires right now It's a little bit stiffer
ride but I think that's because of running 80psi in the 'E's instead of the
65psi I ran in the "D"'s.

The Alcoa Classic wheel Max load rating is 2780 lbs. The new Hot Shot
wheel carries the same rating but is a little more expensive. The nice
looking LTS wheel is rated at somewhat less but lots of folks run them
anyway and I've never heard of a failure.

Darrick has a good deal on the unpolished wheels. I hear it only takes a
few minutes with a buffer pad to make em shine like the others.

Tony,
I've had the machine for 14 years. About the only maintenance items I
haven't redone/replaced are rear bogie pins, ball joints, differential and
transmission. Upgrades include Alcoa wheels, Goodyear G 159 tires, KYB
shocks, Thoma knuckles, headers, 3" exhaust, Thompson air pump and Rostra
speed control. The Alcoa wheels made the biggest impact on driving/handling
and overall enjoyment. If I were allowed only one upgrade the wheels would
be it.
