>From my old Citreon days they took great stock over the fact that they
had the ball joints on the centerline of the tire. I'll try to look up
some of their lit. seems like it was for handling. Some Cits have dash
placks warning "No U Turns over 60MPH".

The discussion on wheel offset and moving the front wheels outboard is
very interesting and the technical parts eye-openers.

I would like to add a non-technical observation from some years of
trying to avoid the wheel ruts. The front wheels on our coaches are the same
width as the outer transport truck ruts and run down the centre or low part
of the rut. The rear wheels of the coach are wider than the ruts, and when
the fronts are in the rut, the rears are up on the slope of the outer rut
trying to run down into the lower part with all sorts of unpredictable
results. Staying out of the ruts is the only sure way to get rid of the
problem - not easy, especially on a busy highway.

If my observation is correct, moving both front wheels outboard would
only compound the problem, putting all wheels on the slope of the outer rut
and I think making the situation worse. That leads to the conclusion of
moving the rear wheels inwards, but even I know technically that's not
feasible.

This has added little to the discussion but I would be interested to
know if anyone with a wider front track can run on the slopes of the
ruts!!!!
