Emery,
We bought a set of the Centramatics for our 16.5" steel wheels before we
got our Alcoas. We didn't even make it a block before most of the clips
that hold the balancers to the wheels started coming off (some actually
fell off in the driveway). I don't know if it was because our wheels were
the earlier non-radial type or what, but there was just no way that those
clips were going to hold the balancers on our wheels. We found just about
all the clips (some in the road, on the side of the road, in the driveway,
in the parking lot we stopped in, etc). We got it back in the driveway and
took the balancers off. We never even bothered to try and put them back
on. They have been sitting in the box they came in ever since.
Once we got the Alcoas and Michelin tires, we have never worried about
balance again. We installed the Michelins on the Alcoas ourselves. We
never even had them balanced. They are MUCH better than the steel wheels
with balanced Michelins ever were. The steel wheels always had a speed
where they would begin to shake (reason we tried the Centramatics). With
the Alcoas and Michelins, we do not have any shake at any speed. With good
quality wheels and tires, proper balancing should not be a problem.

PS - If anyone is interested in the above set of Centramatics for the 16.5"
wheels that have only been used for about 1/8 mile of driving, make me an
offer. Some of the clips are slightly bent, a couple might be missing,
etc, but most are in good shape and the balancers are just about perfect.
I am guessing that they might work well on radial wheels, but I don't know.
Anyone interested could try asking Centramatic about that and possibly
getting a couple of new clips.
