What's the simplest way to change my Onan?

I want to put the Onan from the burned GMC into our restored one. As one has 326 hours on it. The other has 1087 hours. I've put a lifting eye in the threaded lift point. Put an electrical plug in for the Onan white wires to the inside remote controls. I need to pull the battery wire off the starter. So are there stops on the tracks that can be removed to allow the Onan to be removed?

Bob,

Once the onan is on a hook, look for where the cross beams attach to the slides. That is where the manual says to take it apart. It works well for
all but old 4kW, they are different.

Get some help. 440 pounds of Onan iron, hanging by the eyeball is a handful.

Leave the slide rails with the drawer.

Disconnect the fuel plumbing and remove the muffler. Support the Onan by the eyebolt, take the bolts out that hold the slide rails to the generator,
lower the set enough to get to the electrical connections and disconnect them. Reverse to put it back.

The hard part is getting the drawer out. You don't need to do that in this case.

I used the Harbor Frieght engine hoist. The trick is to use a shackle between the hook and eyebolt or the crane hook will not be fully homed in the
eyebolt. Thus puts undo stesses on them and is bad rigging practice. Take some weight and remove the 4 ? small bolts from the track to Onan each side.
Hard part is the Burndy connections in the 1900 box back in the deep corner.

Use a forged eyebolt. Do not trust a formed eyebolt. If the formed one decides to unform it is bad juju.
