The horse owner's insurance adjuster will not approve of my '76 Eleganza II
being transported to either Golbys or to Cinnabar. I was given a choice of
local repair facilities which I visited in Friday. Only one place had a
clue! Most were working folks much younger than my GMC.
I choose a facility in Lincolnton, NC. The name of the company is:
Houser Camper Mfg.
785 W. HWY 150
Lincolnton, NC 28092
704-735-4818
The facility is owned and operated by John L. Houser. We are talking a
2-man, one secretary operation! I spent some time with John L. Houser and
reviewed some of his past work - I was impressed.
He has been in business for 30 years in Lincolnton, NC. He has repaired most
every type of camper and motorhome including the large rear engine bus type.
He has been in the GMC Motorhome manufacturing facility in the '70s and is
very familiar with the construction. His building is a large 2-bay facility
that could easily house two of the largest Motorhomes made with plenty of
working room.
Mr. Houser told me that in 30 years he had never ran a single advertisement.
I have an open invitation to drive over to his facility (30 miles) to view
(review) the progress of the repairs. He works on one job at a time and
completes that job before beginning another.
At this point I do not believe that I have any other option. My 'gut feel'
is that Mr. Houser can do the job - we'll see. I will keep you posted.
Believe me, if this guy does a good job for me I will be his BEST
advertisement!
I have accumulated all of the good data that I have received from
gmcmotorhome It has been condensed and converted to MS
Word 97 files and will be FAXed and mailed to Mr. Houser on Monday AM.
Honest folks, you have provided me with a wealth of information, sources,
things to fix, check, beware of, etc.
I am very grateful to all of you that have provided information to me via
the list.
I will keep you posted (and try to get photos to post on my web site).
If anyone wants a copy of the MS Word files that I have accumulated I will
be happy to send them via private e-mail as a attachment.
Folks, I am still open to ideas and suggestions.
My wife (Judy) and I hope to be at the 25th Anniversary celebration for the
1973 GMC Motorhomes on October 11 - 17, 1998 in Marion, NC. Shucks, Marion
is only an hour away from my home.
Regards,
Tom Winslow
