bought a 76 Palm Beach last July. Iam about to embark on my first trip =
shortly. If you need work done on your GMC, two people to look up your =
way are Darrell Winterfeldt in Longmont (530-4995) and Ray Curtis at =
Eaton Hitch and GMC in Eaton Colorado. Winterfeldt did a ton of engine =
and front end work on my coach and came highly recommended (and I =
agree). Winterfeldt's specialty is rebuilding engines and he can bring =
you an engine and replace it while you are on the road. Darrell works =
on motorhomes out of his home and replaces engines in his driveway.
I have spoken to Ray Curtis and have heard good things about him but =
have never used his services. He sent me a brochure and he too can do =
engine work, front end work and more. You might look into joining GMC =
Western States or GMC Mountaineers. I joined Western States and its =
president is Bill Harvey in Parker (841-6062).
I ended up reupholstering the interior, replaced wall panels, put new =
carpeting in, put in a tilt up bed in the back, put in a macerator, =
fantastic fan, new converter, rebuilt the air compressor, put in a new =
countertop sink and faucet, removed the stove and replaced it with a =
microwave and two burner stove, built two drawers under the gaucho, put =
in an new alternator, installed shutoffs on heater hoses, put in new =
battery isolator and 2 new batteries (all myself). Winterfeldt did a =
valve job, replace the incorrect carburator with a rebuilt original =
carb, put in new front bearings and right knuckle, replaced the fan =
clutch, replaced the distributor, replaced the airbags, put in new mid =
axle brakes (mine was missing a complete brake assembly on the drivers =
side). I bought a set of near new bridgestone all steel belted tires =
and original rims from Winterfeldt too, as several of my rims were bent =
and two tires were well worn. I also had an after market cruise control =
installed and a 12 changer CD put in.
