Weights for Alcoa wheels

In making final arrangements for my conversion from caveman style steel
wheels to Alcoa's, I have a question for my subject matter experts...

Does anyone know what balance weights Alcoa recommends for these wheels?
C-190 or C-230?

Also I've been advised that these should be coated weights to prevent
corrosion of the Alcoa wheels.

Any comments or words of wisdom from anyone?

Mark:

I recommend that the tape-on style weights be used. Doing so is certainly
more esthetically pleasing because the weights are on the back side of the
wheel out of sight. Since they are located along the center line of the rim
of the wheel, you also don't have to split the difference and mount to both
the front and back sides of the rim.

What brand of tires are you looking for? I know a couple people currently
looking for the Bridgestone R 265 series tires, who want a good price.,
Have you contacted Zurcher's in Monroe, 800-589-6172? Talked to them
yesterday and they gave me a price of $125.59 per tire plus shipping for the
Bridgestone R225/75-16 E. Local Discount Tire quoted $149 for the same
tire.

Mark,
I had them use the stick-ons inside the wheel.
The metal of the weight doesn't touch the aluminum, they've stuck for MANY
miles and nothing showing outside.

When I get the new ones done it'll be same method.

I'm pricing the G-159 (Goodyear) and the Mich XPS-Rib.

I have more confidence in the Goodyear, and I'm trying to get them at the
public utility price. (we'll see what that means shortly).

I'm familiar with Zurcher, we used to buy a lot of Firestones (ne'
Bridgestones) from Werternberger tire in Huntington, who was Firestone's
largest distributor. Monteith Tire is our local Zurcher store, and I'll call
them to see what price they quote.

When I was looking for new wheels and tires, I think I checked just about all of
the combinations available 2 years ago, without the aid of the net. I choose
the Goodyears mounted on Alcoas. One interesting thing: there is a spedo error
of about 10%. When the spedometer reads 50, you are going 55.

Back to the tires. I don't have much to compare them to. When I bought the
coach, it had bias tires that were dri-rotted on the sidewalls, so all I did was
drive it home, without pushing it. I have used the Goodyear G159's (when I can
get them) on my 42 Ft race car trailer. A lot of other tires have
failed....tripple axle, heavy load, fast driving...but, not the Goodyears. Thus
far in 2 years, no trouble on the coach, either.

Any Michelin's fail on your trailer or your coach, so far?

To be honest with you, I haven't purchased any Michelin's for my race car
trailer because I need 16.5's. When you blow a tire on the road, you buy
what you can get (and what you can afford). I did start out looking for
M's when I was looking for new tires to go on the new Alcoas. I got a lot
of negative from tire people that I respected, that I settled on the
Goodyears. I've only put about 10,000 miles on the GMC with the
Goodyear's, and I haven't driven any other GMC's any great distances, so I
don't have any other references.

I did sell RV's for about 5 years from 73 - 78 and the Michelin"s were the
hottest thing on the road then. They did seem to have a lot of trouble,
but they stood behind their product. Now, it's my opinion that maybe
Goodyear's are better for our needs. If I'm wrong, I'll listen and eat
humblle pie, but I've invested my money and I'll stick with what I have.

I'm not on either side, just looking for the benefit of experience...
Thanks for yours.
