I have seen some that go straight back under the bumper, but the factory tail pipe comes out the side. The side exit keeps the exhaust gases out of the low pressure directly behind the coach.
I have GM NOS long pipes and tailpipe on mine. I'll take a pic. I think they called the tailpipe a spout in parts speak.

I can see why John was having trouble uploading...it was difficult this time. Here is a pic of my replaced tailpipe location. I copied the existing
using my tubing machine after I cut it off up beside the black tank where it was rusted through and blowing on the tank. Knew I had to fix that before
a disastrophy happened! It is in virtually the same place as the factory pipe if indeed that was the factory pipe that was rusted out when I got the
coach.

If you are into doing exhaust yourself, Jimmy K has that last turn-out pipe in 3" SS. I did my rear muffler system myself back in 2004. What a
hastle. If I had to do it again, I'd buy the whole kit from Jimmy and be done with it. Here is a pic of that last pipe. Pic is from the album of my
rear muffler system. JFWIW http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/rear-mounted-flowmaster/p6729.html

Tahoes Suburbans Silverados F150s still exit similar to the GMC. My guess is best evacuation without leaving carbon marks.
