Arch anyone that knows me also knows that i never march in place. Wife says
i do not march I run, no actually sprint. Always have a 100 projects going
on at least it seems that way. Got so enthusiastic that I bought another GMC
Motorhome last week. Boy do I need that headache now! I do put a lot of
stock in what Joe Mondello says however when it comes to the olds engines,
the man has almost 40 years of experience with them. The camshaft you
picked has loads of low end torque. But if it were me I would buy his
technical manual and parts book and install it the right way. Lots of things
to check and possibly correct before installing it. And yep its optional to
just throw it in. Chances are the old engine will throw it back at you in a
few miles. One thing about Mondello, you buy a cam from him his book tells
you EVERYTHING you need to order with it to make it work right.

Some things on the GMC motorhome are your own personal choice, paint,
interior etc, engines, cams, but some items in my eyes are so important and
have such catastrophic consequences that I dont budge. Tires (e rated all
steel), knuckles and hubs and bearings and brakes. We are guiding(not
driving) a 10,000 pound missle and god help the first one that blows out a D
rated tire and careens across the divider, or loses a front hub because of
poor maintenance and does the same thing.I dont want that to happen to
anyone and sure dont want to be on the receiving end of one.

I speak matter of factly like the engineer that i am, but it is tempered
with much research and experience. I am also in the unfortunate position of
being a professional metrologist, trained at the national bureau of
standards in Boulder Colorado many years ago. With this kind of training
the other engineers will tell you we look at things differently. Are we
always right? Of course not. But I have the technical background to look at
source data and see things most other mechanics do not see. Maybe it will
benefit others. for sure I do not attempt to irritate others but sometimes
by the way it is presented it inevitably will.

We own the best motorhome that was ever designed and we should all strive to
make it better and enjoy it more. Thats my goal. My goal now is to try and
make front bearing pullers available to every one cheaply. its working.
