Watertank Hoses

I pulled the Watertank out of the GMC today.
Poured a cup of Bleach in it and filled it with
water to soak. There was a hose connected to it
near the top/front about 1/2" Diameter. Running
into the bathroom wall. This hose ( Clear , Yellowed )
has mildew in it. Where does it go? Is it a Vent?
The main filler tube also has mildew in it. Anyone
have any info about this? Could all the plumbing
have mildew in it? I dont think any copper pipe
would be a problem. But saw some plastic pipe
in the Tank compartment, Lines to Sinks, Etc.
I will replace the tank, Put more bleach in it
and run the faucets, shower. Will this clean them
out? Floor under the tank is solid.Horray!

Yep, it's a vent. Runs about 3 feet up the inside of the rear panel and
then bends 180 degrees, IIRC. I haven't replaced my tank yet and may
plug it off when I do. It looks like a good bacteria breeding ground to
me. It might make filling the tank a little more difficult, but I'd
feel better about it.

Back in the archives I think there's a good post about sanitizing the
fresh water system. You're on the right track. Start with bleach/water
solution. Then baking soda/water and lastly lots of fresh water. Flush
the entire system. I'd let the bleach stay in the pipes overnight to be
sure to get all the little buggers.

I would caution you not to block it
off...I think it might create a vacuum
causing a loss of water pressure. I wonder
if there is some kind of vent that would
let air in one way, yet block the water from
exiting the tank. Then you could attach it close
to the vent outlet and remove it for cleaning.
I know there is alot of bacteria in my vent pipe.
Its Filthy in there...I would suggest everybody
check theres. This could be a source of potential
health problems. ( Kind of like drinking the water
in Mexico ).

If you are getting thingies in your water tank you are not using chlorinated
water. Add bleach to your water every time you fill up. the directions are
on the bottle. think about it every time we take a trip the coach sits
sometimes for weeks with water in the tank. It is a perfect breeding ground
for bacteria.

Yes, Mine has been off the road for over
10 Years....All kinds of stuff in the fill
pipe and vent.
