Because inquiring minds want to know -

Summit Racing -

AAZ-55-21118H https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aaz-55-21118h WATER PUMP NEW
Expected Arrival on 3/4/2019

That’s less definitive than “Will ship on 2/5”

I put it on this order because the other $80 part I bought was heavy, and this made it “Free Shipping"

I don’t think I’ll hold my breath.

Dolph,

If you mean see that pump?
That is what I put back when I finished the rebuild on my main engine.

You can't see it now, it is in the coach and it is cold out there.

My order got bumped too. I got one from Advance because they had one in
stock locally and according to them it's made by cardone but doesn't look
like the pictures of the cardone one. I figured I can return the advance
one if they actually ship it.

I've got both of mine from Jim K at Applied for one very important reason. It WILL be correct the very first time. Bob Dunahugh

'Anyone actually see one of the puppies in the wild?'

Yeah. Cardone makes them new. I have one in the box from whomever was the best deal. Adcvance, I think. Bought it a few months ago when Pryor
researched them.

When I researched this a few weeks ago.....
- Summit showed 2/4 availability, but by phone did not know when they'll receive them to ship.
- Cardone is the only supplier of these, and does not manufacture them but rather buys them from someone. They did not know when they'd receive them
to ship and suggested I call a dealer to see if they have one in stock.
- Advance, one of Cardone's dealers, told me via Customer Assistance that Carquest (now owned by Advance) sells this pump under part number #T3086 and
that they take it out of the Cardone box and put it into a Carquest box.
- A local Carquest store found two in stock at their Portland warehouse and has ordered one for me. $44.98.
- I now have it in my hands. There are no part numbers stamped in the casting. It has a large impeller with an endplate.

Out of curiosity, I ordered the Advance version. It was $44, but I had a 25% off coupon making it $33, then a Speed Perks coupon that made it $13, shipped. I received confirmation that it shipped tonight. I will keep y’all posted, and post some pictures.

On a related note, a ‘78 coach engine would be Corporate Blue, correct? I will need to paint the pump.

These are the pumps with the roller bearings, right? I hope so—I found one
at a local Advance and just paid for it. Should have it in hand when I pick
it up later today. My current pump is new but a standard, not premium pump
and this one will go in the replacement cycle.

Rick, the giveaway is the part number. The roller bearing one's number has an H at the end for heavy duty. Number is the same otherwise. Without
the H, you get ball bearings front and back.
NOTE - Some computer software treats these as identical, even though internally they aren't. Be careful, look for the H.

It WILL take out your main/rod bearings. Plastics are prone to crack with age. There is no warning signs for the sprocket failure. Remove your stock fuel pump. Use an inspection camera to see what sprocket is in there. You can call me on this anytime if you like. 319-521-4891 CST. As to a replacement chain set. The original OEM chain sets are fine for our application. There are roller types for more money. Don't bother. Not worth getting. Those roller chain sets are great if your over 5,000 RPMs, have a radical race cam. That has a high lift/long deration profile installed, and thus require high pressure valve springs to prevent valve float. Bob Dunahugh 78 Royale

Down in my shop right now, I have 5 GMC water pumps. All of them carried
the same part number on the cardboard box that they were purchased in by me
at 4 different locations. 2 of them came from Applied Air filters and GMC.
One of those two was labeled high performance. It has an aluminum casting,
and a purple anodized impeller with a back plate on the impeller. All the
other 4 are cast iron. Some with cast impellers, some with stamped sheet
metal impellers. There appears to be two distinct gasket shapes, with
different gaskets, hose block offs, and clamp options.
BUYER BEWARE. TAKE YOUR OLD PUMP OFF, AND TAKE IT WITH YOU TO YOUR
LOCAL SUPPLIER.
Oh, you ordered it online? Rotsa Ruck getting an exact replacement.

Thanks, Bob, My primary project is replacing the timing chain, but I
will also be changing the water pump as a Slongaz project.

What's a Slongaz project you might ask?

Well, it's a project you undertake as a result of another related
project. In this case, 'as-long-as' (slongaz) I'm replacing the timing
chain, I should replace the water pump, and slongaz I'm replacing the
water pump, I should replace the fan clutch, belts and hoses, and
slongaz I'm pulling those hoses I should change the coolant, etc.

Most of my projects end up being slongaz projects.

The end of the shaft is stamped R637. The fan mounting flange has 1822318C laser etched on it. I just added a couple of pictures to the earlier album showing these markings.

According to Tom Pryor’s post on January 23, the “R” signifies roller bearings, so it may indeed be correct that it’s a reboxed version of the Cardone 55-21118H.

If someone has a Cardone version handy, could you please let us know if the shaft face at the fan side has similar markings?

Other identifying marks on this T3086 casting would be “A-02” cast into the face on one side, and a symbol like a spoked wheel with an “8” or “B” in the center on the other side (see photos).

8 B is date coding for the casting. Likely February 2018.

I didn’t get any hits for the rest of the numbers.

Allegedly, 3-7 for one in my hand.

You guys shamed me enough to do the same thing.

I stopped by the airport tonight and found my new spare Cardone Select pump still sealed in a plastic wrapper. The whole thing was oiled so it should
not rust outside of the wrapper. I did not have a camera with me so a verbal description is all you get. Mine matches almost exactly what Rick said.
Some additional things are: there is a number stamped (NOT CAST) into the front casting going toward the radiator hose outlet. It is: S21118H
1612282. The impeller has 6 impellers covered with a 4.5" OD disk. The box says made new in China. With a red, black, and white Cardone Select
label.

That is about all I have to add.
