If you use a 240 volt unit the power will only be 1/4 of the rated power
when you run it at 120 volts. So if you pick up a 2500 watt/240 volt
element it will be 625 watts at 120 volts. Works about the same as the
original. If you want more, just go to a larger element. I use a 4000
watt/240 volt element which produces 1000 watts at 120 volts. The 240 volt
elements don't burn out as easily either. Just be sure it is not too long
to fit in your tank.
