Warning Buzzer Location- Door Ajar 77PB

Need information on the location of the buzzer for when the ignition key is
turned on and the door is not fully closed you have the audio warning along
with the light in the tell-tale module

The manual states the buzzer is located behind the left engine access door.
Checked no buzzer anywhere in the front of the engine compartment.

Prior to failure I noted the sound was coming from the right side--in the
vacinity of the glove box. Being a 77 MH, the glove box can not be removed
and I can't gain access to the back of the box. (Removed the 6 mounting
screws that hold the box, however the box can not be removed).

Accomplished the continuity check for the electrical connector on the
steering column (contacts "E" and "F") for the switch located in the column
and it was OK.

Jumpered "E" and "F" on chassis side with power on--buzzer didnot work.
Book says replace the buzzer.

The problem is, "Where is the buzzer located and is there a replacement for
it"?

Robert,
I have a '77 and just checked out the buzzer. It must be attached to or
located directly behind the fuse block in the glove compartment since you can
distinctly feel the vibration of the buzzer when you touch the fuse block. I
have never taken the block loose but note that there are mounting screws in the
top RH and lower LH corners which should allow you to peek behind the block.
I'd be curious to know what you find!!!

I'm not near a tech manual, but my memory is that the door ajar buzzer on
this vintage GM product is a part of the horn relay. That is located behind
the passenger's front 'hood'.

You didn't state if the light still works, but if not, its probably the door
switch. Put the key in the ignition and fiddle with the switch in the door
jamb.

The buzzer is so annoying that they seldom die, but the switch is
susceptible to moisture and doesn't complete the circuit. Twist it around a
little bit and I bet the buzzer will go off. Now you can decide if you want
to replace the switch.

If the light goes on but the buzzer doesn't then replace the horn relay, or
better yet, if you're mechanically inclined, get a nicer sounding chime
annunciator instead at radio shack or the junk yard.

Mark is right. The horn relay does have a buzzer. See page 12-29 of the x-7525
Maintenance Manual (75 & 76) It just so happens to be located directly on the
opposite side of the fire wall fron the glove compartment fuse block, hence the
vibration when you touch the fuse block.

Thanks guys for the information on the buzzer. Found it like you said.

It is part of the horn relay. This horn relay/buzzer combination is
located just below the heater relay on the fire wall passenger side. I
removed the wires from the horn and turned on the ignition switch. Then I
pushed on the steering wheel horn and heard it actuate on the right side. I
didn't check the wiring diagram (big mistake) to find out it is in the horn
relay assembly. The manual doesn's reflect the exact location. So if I
would have traced the wiring diagram I would have found it.

Well anyway I just touched the wire on the relay and it started working. I
noted that there was some corrosion on the wire connector (female end).
Cleaned it off and back in business.
