I just called Dennis to see if I could bring some GMCers over when we have the GMCMI Amana rally. For a private viewing of his collection. As it's not open to the public. He said yes. If enough are interested. We could hire a bus. Bob Dunahugh

Subject: The Futureliner. A friend has one.

A friend of mine here, bought one this last fall. Was delivered to his place in mid January. Really something to see. Planning to stop on the way to Tucson so Linda can see it. I can bring some interior photos. If the weather permits. He said we can take it out for a drive. Look up the Albaugh Collection. Dennis has his collection at his own 18 hole, PGA approved golf course. There's a photo of the Futureliner arriving on a flatbed trailer. I've been helping him find ultra rare cars. For some strange reason. Money seems to be no problem. Visit the site. You'll understand. Bob

I toured one at an FMCA convention in Southern California many years ago.
But I would be interested in seeing this one.

A little background. 12 were built. 10 are known of. 1 is in Germany, 1 Sweden, 1 in Sadie Arabia, 1 went over a cliff here in the states. Never retrieved, 2 are now for parts, and 2 have never been found. ( This info is from my failing memory, from many years ago ) They have been selling for between 3, to 4.5 million each. One of the members of this Forum owned one that he was trying to restore. I don't remember his screan name but I don't think he's on the board
anymore. He had the one displayed in Laughlin years ago. If he's still active maybe he'll chime in.

Sounds like we have about 7 people that are interested at this point. Be neat if we had a few GMC's for transportation there for the group. Dennis has examples of every year of Chevy convertibles from the beginning to 1976. Two of every year of Corvettes from 1953 to I think 1998. The largest gas pump globes, and pedal car collection in the country. Every color combination that 57 Chevy convertibles were sold in. Then there's the Yenko/ muscle car collection. The black car collection. And this list can continue. Bob Dunahugh

Futurliner #10 is currently on display at the Oklahoma City Auto Show. Those who wish to do so, are invited to climb up and sit in the driver seat. Yes, I did! The steering wheel has about two inches of slop in it. I would hate to try to drive that beast. It was taken out for an approximately 50 mile drive on what had been US Route 66.

I had no idea that those were built in the late 30s.

The one here is the one owned by the National Auto and Truck Museum in Auburn, IN.

See www.futurliner.comhttp://www.futurliner.com for info on the GM unit and www.natmus.orghttp://www.natmus.org for info on the museum.

Bob,
Me too!

Mac,

The following was copied from an article about the Futurliners here: http://www.futurliner.com/fh.htm

"Nearly all of the Futurliners had problems with their power steering pumps failing, presumably because of the tremendous force
required to turn the wheels."

Turn the steering wheel on your GMC without the engine running and you'll feel the same "slop."

Me too. Hopefully it won't be scheduled in the first couple days of the convention. We're probably not getting in until the 23rd. That said, don't
wait on me if you need to do it earlier.
