Vanity Top Replacement

All the original pumpkin orange (brochure called it "rust", I think)
decor in my '77 Kingsley DRY BATH coach has been replaced with colors
more to my wife's liking EXCEPT the plastic bathroom sink and top. It
has to go!!!

It looks to me like the top can be removed by disconnecting the attached
plumbing and cutting loose the caulking. Any one done this????

I'm looking for alternatives; replace with formica, etc; color coat
the existing with some of the high powered epoxy coatings; what else???

All comments welcome!!!

There must be someone out there who has removed a vanity top. Let me hear
from you, otherwise I'll claim the distinction of being the FIRST VANITY TOP
REMOVER.

Gary,
I have a wetbath, havent seen a
countertop like that. I would
replace it with either formica or
corian. Pretty easy to do if you
take your time.

John, et al,
An interesting alterntive to full Corian ($$$$ and no place for the amature
to procure it) is standard flat laminate (Formica, etc) for the top with a
Corian type edge, say 3/4" x 2" which can be machined just like hardwood.
This edge material is redily available from anyone who sells the major brands
of laminate materials. I have this in the kitchen of my new house and it
looks and works real well. I think that I'll give this a try in the GMC
bathroom.

Still no one has admited to taking out the existing vanity top. Maybe it is
only in the dry bath models that the top is removable???

like to do for the GMC bath and kitchen but where can you buy any solid
surface product in sheets rather than the installed price through the
approved fabricator in the area. (At around $90 per counter foot, I
might add). I'd be more than willing to take my time, and practice my
fanny off on scraps before doing the real thing. But in this part of the
country they have got that whole area fenced off and guarded with attack

The wetbath is all plastic. You can
get Formica Laminate at many lumber
yards. They will have color chips that
you can take home and match your
decor. Formica is a brand name, Ask
for laminate samples. It takes a few
days to get an order in. Smallest size
is 4'x8' I think. Check with cabinet
makers in your area. They sometimes
have scraps big enough to do a small
project, And might charge very little
for it. Find someone who has done
countertop to help you. Do You know
anyone in the remodeling business?If
you decide to do this yourself let me
know, I'll try to step you through it.
