My employer is rolling out a new IT plan and next Monday it's my turn.
This has lots of upside for me(newer, faster computer; T1 net access; a
"real" company email address) and some downside(mainly restrictions on
"non-standard" applications).
How does this affect GMCnet?(and why am I wasting bandwidth talking
about it here?) Right now, it looks like I will not be able to
access my dialup account from work and I'm not sure whether I'll be able
to(or whether I want to for reasons I won't go into here) admin GMCnet
from my company access. This weekend I'll be moving all my personal
data from this notebook to a new desktop computer I've set up at home.
I'll be checking on GMCnet every evening and taking care of any admin
requests then. This is going to slow down my response to these
requests, especially if I need to travel out of town since I won't have
access to that desktop from "on the road".
Hopefully, this situation will be temporary until either I develop a
comfort level with the new arrangement or I purchase a personal portable
computer(currently considering the Toshiba Libretto 110 - any
comments?). In the meantime, just be patient and I'll get worked
through this eventually.
