I've been doing some research on improvements folks have made to improve the performance of the Type II HVAC system and have found quite a few
approaches. The one that seems to offer the simplest solution for my '76 Royale is Mark Wall's approach here:

I figure just doing the fan relocation and recirc modifications he describes seems like a (relatively) easy way to get most of the benefits without
making substantial changes to the internals of the hvac box and mods to the dash distribution plenums.
The fan gets relocated to the front of the box and a recirc path is established via a short connection from the sloped floor to the box. These seem
doable without too much trauma, remove three of the six changes in air direction, and take advantage of cooled air in the cockpit.
Looking for input, since this is really only theory on my part. Being in the Pacific Northwest, AC is not so much an issue, but our upcoming trip to
Tucson has me thinking about future trips that could involve hot temperatures.
