We're considering the future purchase of a GMC and find the contents
of the digest extremely useful in our decision process. The digest
and its contributors provides an interesting testimony to the power
and value of the Internet in our society.
A few questions I have not been able to resolve from the digest
nor from other GMC-related sites:
1. What is the minimum turning radius of the 23' and 26'
vehicles? Our access to a public road is from a 10' wide
bridge whose center is perpendicular to that public road. The
kicker is that on the opposite side of the road there is a bluff
that is about 41 feet from the road end of our restrictive bridge.
I have maneuvered a 21' SOB on and off the road a few times
but wonder how 23' or 26' might work. The turning radius is
clearly a limiting factor. Fortunately, the road is not
heavily used so I could use the full width if necessary.
Anyone have hard data on that parameter or even relevant
anecdotal experience?
2. In studying the many FSBO ads for GMCs, they frequently refer
to the vehicle type by its GMC-given name (e.g. Painted Desert,
Canyonlands, Glacier, etc.). I have yet to locate references
that associate those names with specific descriptions. My
expectation is that they refer to floor plans as well as to
color schemes. Where should I be looking for this data?
3. We are located in southeastern Alameda County (Sunol, CA)
and have to deal with California Emission Control bureaucracy.
Do engine upgrades such as fuel injection modifications complicate
compliance, or even make it impossible?
4. For those of you in the SF Bay area: while the obvious
concentrations of support are in other parts of the country,
can you find competent repair operations who could deal with
such major things as full 6 wheel alignment, wheel bearing service,
etc.? Its clear that if one were drive 2500 miles to the east,
or even 400 miles to the south (LA), there are adequate resources for
help with those problems unique to the GMC motorhome. How about
in San Jose/Sunnyvale? Walnut Creek/Concord? San Mateo?
Thanks
