Troubleshooting shocks

About 8 years ago I installed Bilstein shocks all around. The last two
years I have noticed a problem that I think is related to a bad shock. When
I am cruising at about 50-60mph, and hit a bump, I get a low frequency
vibration. If the road is smooth it dampens out after a short time. If the
road is rough it just continues. I have had the wheels very carefully
balanced and still no change. I suspect that one of the shocks is bad but I
have no idea as to how to figure out which one. The all look clean. I think
its one of the rears. The vibration does not seem to be coming from the front.

Any suggestions as to how I can figure out which one is the culprit. Short
of replacing them one by one that is...

Take 'em off one by one and check the resistance as you push em closed and
pull em open. Chances are, one or more will be a lot easier than the
others. The easy one will be the culprit.
