Hi all,

Just back from our Raider run, And all went great!!! Another no extra $
trip. I think???? After getting in at about nine here got some things out
of overhead cabinet in rear bed area and now cabinet swing up door now
scrapes the bath wall??? And noticed the shower bottom access panel is bowed
out?????? I'm I in for alot of work???? Does it all have to come out? Thanks
for any info!!!
Other than that all was great, oh yea one more thing, I knew I just had to
do it, I have always in our short GMC past have filled the gas tanks by
using the first notch on gas valve and when it clicks off thats it, but this
time on second fill-up #@&*! I topped it off after the gas valve shutoff.
Bad mistake, After that, on fill-up we kept getting gas odors in the
coach,Guess I'll have to start checking the vent system, did look at tanks,
rear Lt. wheel well, And canister by engine and all was connected with no
leaks, hope the tanks don't have to come down. Anyway dumb thing to do!!!!
But I had no engine ping with timing at 8deg. Tranny temps still peaks close
to 300deg. on peaks of hills, But avg. about 200, Did run at 160-180 on the
flats in CA. outside temps in the 50's. The ride was better this time for
some reason.

I also found that when gas was spilled down the side of the coach after filling
there were strong gas odors in the coach. After many painstaking hours of
searching I determined it was the fuel which spilled down the side. My system
was tight and the rubber fuel lines were new as were all the clamps. The fuel
which spills finds its way into the coach through the venturi action when
traveling. As soon as I closed all the windows and vents the smell went away.
That may be your problem also.
After spilling fuel, almost every time, I decided to move the filler to
another location. Another project for the winter. I am beginning to think the
winter is not going to be long enough. Wait. Bad wording there.
I am going tom move the filler to just in front of the rear wheels. I will
let you know how it works out. Darren

Don't forget, I also had a problem w/the hose from the filler neck tube to the overflow tube going to the tanks in the driver's side wheel well area.
Even tho it looked ok, (no cracks,etc) it still leaked fuel when it kicked off. As the tank is getting full, the gas Slightly flows FROM the tank back towards the Filler neck. Mine is clear, so I can see this action.
After I fixed this, no more problems...

Thanks Darren,

I shut the lady up before filling, run fridge on propane. I used to have a
slight odor while filling which was from leaks from window/filler area. But
now its much worse like a cracked hose, canister problems, tks? I never
really spilled over on to body, just let it bubble down then added more gas
got about 2-3ga. more. Hope I have a easy find, like the canister being
saturated???? Thanks for info.
Like winter huh!!! Ohoooooo....The time for all that good work!!!!

Thanks Emery,

Yeah I know I have some leaks creeping in and around several areas which I
have to fix. Lots of cold air seeps into the coach while we stayed init this
last week and a half, Heater worked great :-)>. Gets cold in Antioch now,
never really did before...And only six months here in AZ......... Thanks

I looked at filler area from engine area/map pocket by driver seat and could
not see any wet gas, there was gas odor.(was burntout on gas odor, even B/I
propane. Did you see a leak on yours?

Saw a light colored GMC on I-40 going towards Needles CA. 11/20 about 1pm.
We were headed the other way. Anyone from this Net?

Ron and Gina, there are lots of possible causes for the smell.
An easy one to check is the seal at the filler neck. Mine was
leaking, and anytime gas came out of the filler pipe (which is
often if you try to fill it up), it would run down the filler
pipe inside the body and drip on the bulkhead under the driver's
seat. If you take off the inner wheel well, you can see easily
if there are any stains there. I used some silicon sealer to fix
it.

Take a close look around the gas filler. You'll probably see a small gap
between the sidewalla dn the filler neck. IF you get any gas on this area
you may smell fumes really strongly in teh coach. The reason is that the
gas runs down the inside of the wall - and all that keeps it out of the
coach intyerior is the thermoformed plastic of the interior side wall. Use
some petroleum proof caulking and seal around the neck. Be careful not to
build up too much - it can interfere with the cap fit.

Worked for me when all else failed.

Checked that area and there is a gap, So will repair, But still don't
believe I found my problem. Does anyone know if the Canister by engine can
be used up? Way to check? Just replace? Thanks again.

Ron, unless the fuel separator is malfunctioning, there should
never be any liquid in the canister, and during refueling, the
tank should vent to the atmosphere through the open gas filler.
I don't think many of us, outside of maybe California, have ever
changed our canisters.
