This is probably a long shot on a GMC (since the fuel system has a tenancy
to leak) but maybe you are not getting enough air in the fuel tanks. When
the fuel pump sucks gas out of the tank, air has to enter the tank to
replace the fuel. Sometimes there is a blockage the air source (the
charcoal canister, vapor line and/or fuel/vapor separator) that will allow
a vacuum to build up in the fuel system. Its an easy thing to check for. Go
for a drive and when you start having fuel starvation problems, loosen up
the gas cap. If you hear a woosh of air and the engine starts running OK
then check the vapor recovery system.
