My '78 Transmode has both in front attach to a 'Booster Battery' Relay.

Don,

A Transmode is an unfinished GMC motorhome. GMC built about 13000
motorhomes between '73 and '78. Many of these were Transmodes.

Some Transmodes were sold "as built" and converted for special
purposes such as mobile display showrooms, TV studios, blood mobiles,
etc.

Others, and I suspect the majority of Transmodes were sent out to be
outfitted by other RV companies like Coachman and Avion for example.

One way to tell if a GMC is a Transmode is look under the
passenger's side hood at the battery compartment. All Transmodes were
shipped from the Pontiac, Michigan plant with the house battery mounted
up front along with the starting battery. The motorhomes had the house
battery installed in the generator compartment.

Easiest way to tell a trasmode is to check the vin number. TZE3 the 3
indicates a transmode. My understanding is that coachman etc were not made
from transmodes but shells of regular coaches. Transmodes were produced
without all of the windows.

As does my '73 Canyonlands. My father's 75 Eleganza has the "bus"
battery in the generator compartment. I understand that the main reason
for the change was because a standard car battery was woefully
inadequate for the 12V refrigerator. I suppose that, since the
Transmodes didn't come with a refrigerator, GM kept the original battery
arrangement.
