Some time ago I saw a table that showed the life expectancy of
transmission oil at various temps. It was prepared by some Lab or oil
company but the info is invaluable because if you have a temperture gauge
and you reached 250 or 300 degrees, you know you have 10 or 15 minutes of
useful life left in that oil and you had better shut things down and
change the oil quickly.
IIRC, maximum oil temps of say 130-140 degrees resulted in a life time
measured in hundreds or thousands of hours but at 300F you could count
it's effective life time in minutes.
I wonder if anyone has ever seen this kind of data?
