Since Manny has kinda retired from the TH425 rebuild business, we in the upper midwest have found a rebuilder that has done an excellent job of
rebuilding for us.

The fella's name is Steve Turnquest. His company name is Transformation Performance Transmissions Inc. and is from Ramsey Mn. NW of Minneapolis. He
builds transmissions of all brands but specializes in heavy duty and performance. He has attended our local GMC chapter (Greater Midwest Classics)
work rally and did a session for us on building the TH425 for heavy duty use. He puts in "heavy duty parts" which can up the price. Last trans I had
done by him was in the $800 range. Depending on what yours needs, it could run more. He has actually sought out, through his sources, OEM parts that
he stocks for the 425, but does not have "everything". He has quite a few TH425's out there now with no come backs.

Don't know if he will ship to other parts of the country. You could ask. We drop a trans off and it is ready in a week to pickup.

I have a Steve Turnquist tranny. Installed in 2016 with Larry's help on a blacklist call. 20K miles on, no problems, crisp shifting, happy as hell.

Hi All,
Here in Michigan a very good transmission shop is "Precision Transmission,
2080 Sand Beach Rd, Bad Axe, MI 48413. 989 269-2449.

This is the builder that Dave Lenzi uses. He builds a standard duty with
stock or Alison torque converter and the HD version with the extra goodies
inside with the Alison type torque converter as specified by Dave., He
also builds the transmission for Cinnabar and has built 2 for me and other
in the area. You need to take your transmission to him and he will
typically turn it around in 24 to 48 hours, unless he needs to order parts.

By better, do you mean cheaper, or higher quality? Often times, the words
are NOT INTERCHANGABLE.
Some of us paid our own way through trade schools and served
apprenticeships at 50% of Journeymans scale to learn our trades. Our ROI is
very low, sometimes taking 10 plus years to become proficient enough at our
trades to allow us to make a living wage.
If you investigate your transmission guy very much, you will probably
find a lone duck, hard worker, with a lease to pay, sometimes employees
that need paid, suppliers and vendors that like their bills to be paid,
utilities, you name it.
Please consider this too when making statements about what a person is
worth.
Just saying that I have walked in those shoes for years, and have some
insight.

I get what you're saying here, Jim, but considering I can get a brand new, fresh from GM 6L80 with torque converter from Scoggin Dickey for 10 bucks
more which includes the shipping charge, I'd say he is giving us the "I don't really want to work on this" price for the TH425....

$3172.00 is what I read. In this case, I would tend to agree with your
assessment. That is a couple of thousand bucks higher than what I would
consider a fair price for a rebuilt TM 425. Installed should add $500.00 or
so to the in n out price.
Manny's transmissions are in the $800.00 range, the local guy I use is $1400 or
a bit higher depending upon how heavy duty you want to go.
So, if your guy wants over 3000 bucks, he is high.
