Transmission Question

I noticed this fitting on the top of the transmission. It had a loose rubber hose connected to it, with the other end of the hose disconnected. Where
should it connect to? What is it?

Originally the transmission had a loose fitting cap there that would vent transmission fluid. Many of us have replaced the vent cap with the hose fitting that you have. You then run a length of hose down along the frame so that if any fluid is vented it won't run into the transmission or engine but will flow to the ground. Transmission fluid is very flammable it it hits a hot exhaust pipe.
Some fit the lower end of the hose into a pill bottle so they can see if their transmission is venting fluid. If so it is a sign that you might be building up internal pressure that shouldn't be occurring.

Get a hose connected to it, run it down to the bottom of the frame away from
the exhaust, and point it towards the ground. Trans fluid overflow on to a
hot exhaust header or pipe is almost an instant fire.
