Our 1974 Eleganza SE has about 64,000 miles on the odometer. The mechanic
told me that he believes that it had the original transmission fluid. He
told me that, when these transmissions were new, there was a knock-out at
the bottom of the dipstick hole. Inserting the dip stick the first time
removed the knockout and it would settle to the bottom of the pan. He said
the knockout was still on the bottom of the pan. Is this true?

I now have the new Ragusa transmission pan installed and new fluid (not
Mobile-1). We installed the temperature sensor also.

I swear, it seems as though the GMC ran better and shifted smoother as I was
driving home this afternoon. Could new fluid make a noticeable difference in
the performance? Or, is it my imagination?
