Not long ago I saw an interesting chart that shows the life of tranny oil
at various temps. I think at 300 degrees the oil's useful life is 15
minutes.

Maybe someone else knows where to find that info.

I'm told that fluid temperature over 300 deg F for very long is death to the
transmission.

On page 8 of the December 1996 issue of GMC Motorhome News Wes said
in reference to avoiding questionable transmission repairs for a transmission
that
sounds like it is slipping to "buy or borrow a tachometer and a
transmission-pan
oil temperature gauge. If the gauge doesn't go over 250 degrees F, and the
tachometer
doesn't rise when "slipping starts", your fan clutch is doing its job....."

Does this mean 250 degrees is the red line for the trans fluid temp in the
pan?
