transmission gear indicator cable

I'm currently installing the 5th radio (double DIN this time) in our GMC since we bought it back in 1998.

During the install I noticed that the cable that connects the "transmission gear indicator" is frayed and about to break. I think this would be good
time to replace it since I have the dash opened up.

I have no idea where to obtain a replacement cable.

It's a similar cable to the one shown in the picture.

Since it's probably only the cable that's damaged, I'd go to fishing tackle
shop and buy some plastic-covered SS leader, which is about the size and
flexibility of that cable. They'll have some small crimp fasteners to go
with it. With those in hand, it should be a quick and easy job to make a
replacement cable, IMHO.

John,

I just finished replacing my indicator line. I used heavy duty 150 lb. Kevlar braded fishing line. I matched the diameter, crimped fittings on the end
and it should last my life time. I believe it is stronger and more durable than OEM.
