I have mine in the same location. I typically see 150-180 degrees at the=20
outlet. Peaks out at 210 or so when climbing for extended periods. I=20
suspect that my lower temps are due to the following changes:

1) I run the engine at 160 degrees
2) I have a trans cooler
3) I have the 3.42 final drive.

My last trans fluid change I switched over to Mobile-1 and did not see any=
=20
difference in operating temps.

While on the subject of trans fluid, I discovered a neat trick when I was=20
changing the fluid on my old Chrysler New-Yorker. Chrysler (or someone)=20
placed a magnet in the bottom of the trans pan. I was amazed at how much=20
sludge the magnet collected from the trans fluid. It worked so well and was=
=20
so easy to clean when changing the fluid that I decided to try it on my=20
GMC. I placed four small magnets in the bottom four corners of the trans=20
pan. I will be interested in seeing what is attached to them when I do my=20
next fluid change.
