Here goes Arch.......

My trans gage seems to run about 140 with the toad and 130 without. This
is pan temp. Ambient usually around 85-95f. This is hiway cruising with
almost no climbing (Florida) In city driving temp will escalate about
10-20 degrees.

To compare with exit temp from converter add 50 degrees.

Arch,
Here You'll find at least 3 groups.
Dem dat ain't talking
Those who'll send the info requested.
And those of us who haven't a clue what our tranny temps are
because we have no temperature gauges on our transmissions yet.

Some of us without tranny temp gauges want them. What is the best to
use?

Tranny Temp

Mine is only measured from the pan. Seems more dependent
on outside air temp than anything else.

Ouside Air Temp - Tranny Temp - Engine Temp

0-60 degrees - unknown
60-80 degrees - 160-170 degrees - 160-180 degrees
80-90 degrees - 170-180 degrees - 180-190 degrees
90+ degrees - 180-190 degrees - 190-210 degrees

On a recent trip to Nashville climbing Monteagle pass
a 6% grade for about 7 miles, temps all quickly climbed
about 10 degrees and stopped.

Mike,
I'm interested, how is it going down the South bound side of Monteagle?
Braking problems, etc?

7? ????

I have a temp sensor at the output to my cooler- this is as close to the torque
converter as possible. Temps returning from NC after the rebuild ran between
180 to 240 while climbing the mountains at 70 to 75. I had the trans pan from
Caspro installed and I will pu a temp gauge on the pan soon. When I do I will
do some comparisons between the 2 and get the answer about the differences
between pan temp and internal converter temp. There should be about a 30 to 40
degree difference between the two.
